By Douglas Mazune GIOVANNI 'Italiano' Storchi in a Lancia Intergrale yesterday put up a flawless display to win the UMC sprint at the exciting Garuga double track circuit. Storchi posted the quickest time of 6.52 minutes beating troubled Moses Lumala (Toyota Celica ST 165) into second position by15 seconds. The Italian who swept both runs to register his second sprint victory in succession was all smiles. "We are happy with our performance, we are improving in every rally but we were also lucky," Storchi said. "We survived that dangerous spot where Lumala rolled and nearly rolled again at the same place." Lumala who trailed Storchi by nine seconds in the first run rolled his car in the second run while in a fierce head-to-head race with Storchi. The daring Caltex driver surprised the capacity crowd that thronged Garuga when he returned to the track but retired after he nearly rolled again at the same spot. His first run time was second best. Ponsiano Lwakataka in a Subaru Impreza was third, eight seconds behind Lumala while Arthur Blick and Nadim Lalani came fourth and fifth. Sergeant Ismail Lule, making a first appearance this season in a borrowed Subaru Legacy finished in an impressive sixth. Chipper Adams and Charlie Lubega did not show up for the event. The proceeds of the sprint would help UMC member Wycliff Bukenya maintain his car. Results: 1. Giovanni Storchi 6:52 2. Moses Lumala 7:07 3. Ponsiano Lwakataka 7:13 4. Arthur Blick 7:32 5.
