By Moses Nampala Three people including two police officers have been arrested on suspicion of being part of a gang that robbed a Busia businesswoman of merchandise and cash recently. The suspects also allegedly wounded one person. One of the arrested police officers was found with a gun. The CID officer, Mr. P.K Barasha, identified the arrested suspects as Pc. No 27580 Pulo Magemeso, Pc. No 30562 Asaph Ahimbisibwe and Peter Kigwiri. The two Police officers were attached to Jinja Mobile Police Unit. The armed thugs mounted an illegal road block at Umber Court in Jinja Municipality on the Jinja- Kampala highway and robbed Safina Tibakoberwa, of sh500,000 and cartons of cigarettes valued at sh5,725,000. Tibakoberwa was travelling in a Saloon car registration number UAD 966H from Busia to Kampala when she was stopped by the robbers. The thugs then shot and wounded her driver Robert Kirundi in the arm. Kirundi had attempted to defy their orders to move out of the vehicle. Barasha said the thugs were travelling in a hired vehicle registration number UAA 272B. He said, "Both victims were assaulted and abandoned at the scene of the robbery as the thugs forced them out of the vehicle and drove off after forcing Tibakoberwa to surrender sh500,000 to them." Acting on a tip off from the victims, Police arrested the three suspects at Kirinya Road in Jinja town after they intercepted the stolen vehicle in a fierce fire exchange that ensued. However, one suspect, a Police officer who had a gun, escaped to the nearby bush. "We have established clues of the errant Police officer. arrangements for his arrest are under way," Barasha said. He added that the arrested suspects would soon appear in court. Ends
