Former state minister for water, Othieno Akika, was yesterday arrested for allegedly shooting at a crowd of his rival's supporters in Tororo.

By Jabweri Okello Former state minister for water, Othieno Akika, was yesterday arrested for allegedly shooting at a crowd of his rival's supporters in Tororo. Akika, who is seeking re-election to Parliament, lost his ministerial post after allegedly assaulting a policeman in Tororo two years ago. Police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said Akika, the West Budama South MP is held at Tororo Police Station. Mugenyi said Akika reportedly shot at the crowd after an argument with Eng. Richard Olowo. Olowo is said to be a supporter of one of Akika's rivals. Mugenyi said, "Akika who was driving his vehicle drove by and later reversed when he noticed Olowo in the crowd." He said Olowo was playing a board game by the roadside when Akika picked an argument with him. Akika reportedly drew a pistol and shot at the fleeing Olowo. Ends
