By Moses Nampala A 24-year-old housewife and her lover were on Tuesday jailed for four months in Jinja and ordered to pay a sh600 fine for adultery. Catherine Timugibwa pleaded guilty to eloping with Robert Wesamoyo but blamed "Satan's evil spirits." The couple appeared before a grade one Magistrate, Evans Tumusiime, yesterday. Timugibwa, whose husband is Godfrey Wepondi, wept in court and asked for forgiveness. She said, "Satan acted on me to flee from my official marriage to elope with Wesamoyo. I'm sorry. I will never do it again." Wesamoyo also pleaded guilty and sought pardon. The prosecutor said the crime was committed on July 6 at Mpumudde. Wepondi hails from Busuyi in Buyengo, Jinja. Passing judgement, Tumusiime said the duo had saved court's time by pleading guilty but their action called for a deterrent sentence. He said, "We are living in a society that is severely being haunted by the AIDS scourge. "You ought to live respecting the concept of marriage as your action was a sign of disrespect and having a low opinion of the complainant. "Each of you should serve a custodial sentence of four months and shall also be liable to pay a fine of six hundred shillings to the complainant." Ends
