By Samson Opus UGANDA Amateur Boxing Federation (UABF) has instituted a committee to probe allegations of abuse of office by secretary Issa Odongkara. The three-man team to be chaired by James Muhenda was named after a closed executive meeting Saturday at National Council of Sports (NCS) headquarters Lugogo. The meeting was called following persistent allegations of financial mismanagement by Odongkara. Others on the committee mandated to present their findings in a month include William Machari and Kent Musa. Odongkara is accused of having connived with treasurer Patrick Sendigya to divert funds of the federation. The UABF official is also accused of undermining other members of the executive. A case was cited when Odongkara reportedly slapped executive member Samuel Lukanga after an argument during the recent King’s Cup. “It was tense. We wanted to chuck him (Odongkara) but the president was on his side and we couldn’t go any further,” said a source who preferred anonymity. When contacted yesterday for a comment, UABF president Vincent Byarugaba said: “the idea of the meeting was the way forward.” The president denied any rift in the executive saying the development was just routine. “There is no crisis. These are small things which have been magnified, he said.” Ends
