THE Iganga district LC5 chairman, Patrick Bageya, has commended a team of Christian medical volunteers from the United States for the free medical services rendered to the district. Martin Kiiza reports that the nine-man team from Ashburn United Methodist Church Virginia was on Wednesday treating patients free of charge at Namutumba health unit in Busiki sub-county. The team led by Deborah Cook is on a two-week’s visit to the country to promote medical partnership with the government through the Uganda Methodist Church. The district director of health services, Dr. James Baguma, told the New vision that two percent of the children in Iganga under the age of five were malmalnourished and that Iganga was second to Mbarara in having underfed children. “the health ministry strategic plan of 2001-2005 reveals that in Iganga 45% of the children are poorly fed and stunted,” he said.
