Kampala University is recommended for licensing by a ministry of education visitation committee.
October 25, 1999: Kampala University opens with an orientation week for 500 registered students for three degree courses.
December 5, 1999: Movement Secretariat launches an independent investigation into the university.
May 16, 2000:
Bank of Uganda-appointed receivers advertise the sale of Kampala University.
July 31, 2001:
Abruptly sold to a local firm belonging to Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba.
Aug 5:
Basajjabalaba appoints Prof. Henry Nsubuga and Prof. Mwene Mushanga new vice chancellor and university secretary respectively.
Aug 6:
New proprietor changes the name to Kampala International University.
Aug 7:
The former Kampala University management clears the institution of all their property.
Aug 8:
The new Kampala International University is formally registered as a limited liability company.
Aug 9:
The former Kampala University students appeal to the ministry to allow their absorption into the newly registered university.
