By Amlan Tumusiime OVER 100 primary school teachers in Kigorobya Town Council and Kigorobya sub-county in Hoima have gone on a sit- down strike protesting low pay. The teachers from 12 schools started the strike on Monday morning paralysing school activities and forcing some headteachers to send the pupils back home. The affected schools are Kitana, Kigorobya COU, Kigorobya Muslim, Iguru I, Haibaale, Buhirigi, Kibiro, Kyabisagazi, Kigomba, Kapaapi, Kyeramya and Kibengeya primary schools. When The New Vision visited some of the affected schools on Monday afternoon, teaching was not going on and the pupils were outside playing. The headteachers of various schools told The New Vision the teachers reported for duty, signed in the teachers’ arrival book and disappeared there after. They said since they have no deputy headteacher, they were using the prefects to control the school. Patrick Isoke, the headteacher of Kigorobya said he had sent pupils home because he could not manage alone. “I sent all the pupils from P. 1-P. 6 home,” he said.
