FOUR of five Ugandan players have been ranked at the East Africa junior tennis circuit that got underway in Mombasa yesterday, reports Samson Opus. The four, drawn for the second round action slated late yesterday, were seeded after an outstanding display in the ITF camp at Mombasa Sports Club. Seed one Patrick Ochan was due to take on Kenya’s Chaudhery Angad in the second round. Seed two Janet Namutebi was pitted against Rwanda’s Nicol Mugwaneza in the girls’ category. The other two, Ronald Semanda and Jonathan Sebanja were seeded number two and five respectively. Semanda was drawn against Ali Hussan of Tanzania while Sebanja was due to face Nvayizijiye of Burundi. Unseeded Said Mawa was Uganda’s early casualty falling to Ethiopia’s Neskel Zewge 6-4, 6-0 yesterday. But team coach John Oduke was optimistic of better results in the event that will earn top participants ITF scholarships to the South African tennis center. “ We still have high chances. Their performance has been marvellous,” Oduke said on phone yesterday. The tournament, that runs up to August 24, has attracted over 50 players from the region. Ends
