By Vision Reporter THE Government is to review the policy under which large chunks of land at Bukaleeba and south Busoga forest reserves were allocated to investors for afforestation, state minister for environment, Kezimbira Miyingo said on Thursday. He said the Government would come up with a common policy that would benefit the local community and the investors. Miyingo was addressing residents of Bukaleeba where he had gone to resolve a conflict between the community and two foreign investors. The investors were awarded a contract to re-plant trees in the forest reserve. The residents had complained that while they were evicted for illegal cultivation in the forest reserve, the German and Norwegian investors, who were allocated large chunks of land in the forest were growing maize instead of planting trees. Miyingo, who was accompanied by the commissioner for forestry, Deo Byarugaba said reviewing the policy would enable the Government to consider the community’s demand to use the land while at the same time plant trees.
