THE Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the photographic voters’ registration exercise in Arua Municipality following reports of violence between the residents of Aringa and Ayivu reports Miria Sidney. The EC district registrar, Richard Banya, said on Tuesday, “The EC has temporarily called off the photographic voter registration exercise in Arua Municipality because of several incidents of ethinic violence. We are expecting a commissioner to meet the elders of the Aringa and Ayivu over the matter.” The Resident District Commissioner, Thomas Okoth Nyalulu, said the prime cause of violence was that the peopole from the two Counties were fighting for supremacy in the municipality politics. Banya said they had recorded incidents of violence in Niva, Bazaar east, Baruku, Tanganyika, Pangisa, Mvara and Kenya villages. He said the Police had arrested some suspects who allegedly fought and destroyed EC property at a registration centre in Kenya village. Those arrested were Tom Ajusi, Emmanuel Diku Christopher Andea and Ajio Karamaza. The regional Police Commander, Geofrey Erach, said the suspects would be charged.
