THE Vice-President, Dr. Speciosa Wandira Kazibwe, is expected to return home and resume her duties within the next few weeks, reports Milton Olupot. This was contained in a statement yesterday by the Director General of Health Services, Prof. Francis Omaswa. “I am glad to report that the surgical procedures have been successful in handling a complicated condition for which she was referred,” Omaswa said. Kazibwe underwent an operation to remove fibroids from her uterus on July 28 at Highgate Private hospital in the United Kingdom. On his return from visiting Kazibwe in the UK, Omaswa said after post-operative tests, the surgeon decided to carry out a second operation on August 14. “Her Excellency, the Vice-President, was referred by her doctors to London for investigation of symptoms which had persisted over a period of time. She was hospitalised at the Highgate hospital and is under the care of Dr. James Olobo Lalobo, a Ugandan, who is a prominent specialist in London,” he said. “I have discussed the Vice-President’s condition with Dr. Lalobo and I also paid her a visit at the hospital and I have been following her progress closely. She is now on her way to a complete recovery,” he said. Meanwhile Omaswa has also explained that the medical condition which led to the death of Nebbi Woman MP Esther Dhugira Opoti was grave and terminal, involving multiple organ failure. He said the doctors did everything they could to try to save her life in vain. Opoti died of acute ulcers on Saturday at Mulago Hospital. Her remains will be buried today at her home in Nebbi district. Opoti is survived by two daughters, Sharon, 16, and Mercy, 11. Ends
