FORMER New Vision sports journalists Simon Peter Ekarot and long serving, Leo Kabunga were yesterday laid to rest in sorrowful ceremonies held in their ancestral homes.

By Vision Reporters FORMER New Vision sports journalists Simon Peter Ekarot and long serving, Leo Kabunga were yesterday laid to rest in sorrowful ceremonies held in their ancestral homes. Ekarot 27 and Kabunga 48, together with New Vision sub-editor and columnist, Kenneth Matovu, 25, and Francis Batte, 24, The Monitor assistant sports editor, died in a car crash along Jinja highway on Tuesday. Mourners braved an afternoon down pour in Mawero village in Busia during Ekarot’s burial. Kabunga was laid to rest in Rwentuha, Bushenyi. In Busia, Fr. Augustine Oder, encouraged the congregation to always prepare themselves for death. Former FUFA treasurer Michael Okiror offered to educate one of Ekarot’s daughters. New Vision Deputy Sports Editor, Wangwe Mulakha described the deceased as, “a young dedicated scribe with a lot of zeal.” In Bushenyi New Vision sports editor, Louis Jadwong said: “Kabunga has been a senior reporter. He has been the oldest in our department. Despite his age he respected us and we also respected him and that’s what has brought us here.” Ends
