By John Ssemuju Waku A COURT in Sembabule adjourned prematurely after a suspect jumped out of the dock and tried to strangle the magistrate. Grade One Magistrate Boniface Wamala was rescued from Swaibu Kasiita’s grip by the prison warders assisted by other suspects in the court. The incident happened at 2:30pm soon after Wamala read out the charges against Kasiita. Kasiita was charged with abducting a girl who was gang-raped. As soon as Kasiita’s hands were wrenched off the magistrate’s neck, Wamala rushed to his chambers looking frightened. Kasiita was quickly handcuffed and whisked away to the prison cells at Sembabule district headquarters. Before he was handcuffed, Kasiita told the warders, “Mwalindese ne mmutuga, lwaki ansomedde omusango gwe simanyi?” (You should have left me to strangle him for reading charges I have not committed). Later, Kasiita broke the door to the prison cell where he was being kept and walked out naked. He reportedly pelted the prison staff together with their family members from the prison compound with stones. The prison in-charge, Charles Lubwama, said Kasiita may be a lunatic. He said he had asked the Police to take him for a medical examination. By press time, Kasiita was still roaming in town with a panga and a stick in hand. Ends
