By Pauline Ajello KATAKWI district has been hit by floods that have destroyed crops of the displaced people living in camps. The woman representative for Ngariam sub-county, Ms Akurut Scola, said the floods destroyed cassava, groundnut and sweet potato gardens. “Our crops have been totally destroyed by floods. The Government should come to our rescue,” Akurut said. She said the people leaving in the camps have been affected by diarrhoea through drinking bad water as a result of having one borehole for over 2,000 people. Akurut said Ngariam Corner camp was the most affected by shortage of food, drugs and proper medical care due to distant health units. She said women and children were suffering most. She said there was likely to be an increase in HIV/aids infection because the camps lack condoms. She also said the camps lack enough security since the withdrawal of the UPDF at the district borders.
