THE Soroti district movement committee has appealed to the government to use the funds intended for re-stocking to dis-arm the Karimojong.

By Nathan Etengu THE Soroti district movement committee has appealed to the government to use the funds intended for re-stocking to dis-arm the Karimojong. The committee that met in soroti on Sunday said it was meaningless to re-stock Teso region when the Karimojong continued to steal the cows. “If the government has failed to raise funds to implement the dis-armament programme, it should instead divert the funds for re-stocking and poverty alleviation to the defence ministry to disarm the Karimojong,” the committee chaired by state minister for health, Capt. Mike Mukula, said. The meeting was also attended by the Gulu Resident district commissioner, Mr. Musa Ecweru. The sub-county movement chairpersons said they had been criticised by the community for neglecting the continuous cattle raids and other acts of lawlessness that the Karimojong had committed in Teso region.
