By Solomon Muyita A FIRE drill at Rwenzori Courts in the City Centre on Thursday morning forced over 100 occupants to temporarily flee from the building. A fire alarm went off at 9:20am. The alarm was activated by the building management to check on the occupants’ awareness and response to emergency situations. The Police Fire Brigade was alerted immediately, and a team of fire fighters reached the scene within five minutes. Michael Sentamu, the building superintendent, informed The New Vision the management wanted to check their tenant’s response to emergency situations following the recent terrorist attacks on America. “The British members of the Department of International Development, operating on the building are aware of such emergency outbreaks and were the first to run out. The last person left the building after 15-minutes,” Sentamu said. The Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Joseph Mugisa, said some people got confused and took cover in the toilets, others ran to the basement to pick their cars, whereas others were waiting to be told to leave. “Don’t take chances! Whenever you hear the alarm, you run out of the building immediately,” Mugisa said. Ends
