THE Church of Uganda has described the late retired Archbishop Dr. Yona Okoth as “a very courageous man and a great defender of human rights and democracy,” reports Joyce Namutebi. Anglican Archbishop Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo said Okoth “led the Church in some turbulent times as he served courageously alongside the late Archbishop Janani Luwum.” He said the Church had received with shock, deep sorrow and bewilderment the untimely death of Okoth. “As a Church, we remember late Yona Okoth as a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, as a man of courage, parental, developmental and a great defender of human rights and democracy.” Okoth, 74, died on Thursday at Mulago Hospital of a blood clot in the lung. Funeral service will be at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe on Monday. Ends
