Ssematimba hit 81 runs while his colleagues bowling was perfect, as they led Tasmanians to a nine-wicket victory in a build-up match at the weekend. Opening batsman Ssematimba, 18, hammered a quick half century as his new side Tasmanians CC demolished Roodepoort City in Durban. Pace-man Kamyuka was economical (1/24 in 9 overs) and spinner Nsubuga (30 runs in 6 overs) as they frustrated Roodepoort’s batting. Ssematimba, who struck some classy drives on both sides of the wicket, went on to spread boundaries all over the field but was stopped in his stride when he was caught in the out-field. The three, currently in Durban for a pre-season drilling session are expected back in Johannesburg to participate in the domestic league. Ssematimba, Kamyuka and Nsubuga left the country last month for a professional stint with third division Tasmanians Cricket Club (TCC). They will play (full time) for TCC in all local league fixtures, coach Soweto schools and train youths in disadvantaged areas under the supervision of ICC official for Africa Hoosain Ayob. Tasmanians CC is composed of mainly Asians and it is one of the top performers among the third division clubs in the Gauteng province. They will also be privileged to attend cricket academies whenever the opportunity arises. ends
