By Douglas Mazune THE world motor sport governing body FIA will today give its verdict on the direction the sport will take in Uganda. The general assembly attended by delegates from all countries affiliated to FIA, will ratify World Motorsport Council recommendations on rallying worldwide. Of importance to Uganda, and included on the agenda, will be a crucial matter: Should the Automobile Association of Uganda (AAU)Limited be allowed to hang onto the sporting powers for Uganda, or should these be assigned to the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU)? A positive response from FIA will only improve local rallying. A negative response (giving AAU legitimacy) will only spell doom for motorsport in Uganda since the majority of drivers, sponsors, clubs and fans are behind FMU. It would also entrench a two-year wrangle. AAU bosses Roger Ddungu, John Mutenda and Sali will be in the assembly that will decide their fate. Meanwhile, the World Rally Council yesterday removed Portugal’s WRC from them and gave it to Germany. ends
