Hirji sues Kakira firm

RALLY veteran Karim Hirji testified before high court in Jinja yesterday that he lost a sh700m rally car two years ago in an accident caused by negligence and carelessness by a Kakira Sugar Works employee.

By Moses Nampala in Jinja RALLY veteran Karim Hirji testified before high court in Jinja yesterday that he lost a sh700m rally car two years ago in an accident caused by negligence and carelessness by a Kakira Sugar Works employee. Hirji wants Kakira Sugar Works to compensate him for loss of a factory prepared-rally car burnt to ashes after he collided with a tractor belonging to the company. The rally driver, who sustained injuries, also seeks sh2.5m in medical, special and general damages and the cost of the suit. The rally veteran contends that on the fateful day he had the right of way, with statutory instructions from relevant authorities. Hirji recounted before Jinja resident Judge Joram Bamwine, that he drove a Toyota Celica 205 No. HK 786 September 9 in the Pearl of Africa Rally. The vehicle hit a tractor and burnt to ashes. Hirji is represented by Michael Akampurira, while Byaruhanga of Sam Kutesa and Company Advocates appeared for Kakira. ends
