THE Rukungiri woman Member of Parliament, Winnie Masiko, has said the World Bank has allocated about sh800m for the support of early childhood nutrition programmes in the district this financial year, reports Martin Kiiza. She said this last week while addressing residents of Kikongi in Bwambara sub-county in Rujumbura during Child Nutrition Day celebrations. The Minister of State for Security, Muruli Mukasa, represented Jim Muhwezi, the Minister of Health and area Member of Parliament at the function. More than 300 children were immunised against polio at the function. “I am happy to note that about 198 children who previously missed immunisation during the national immunisation exercise have now been immunised,” Masiko said. Muruli-Mukasa urged the people of Rukungiri and Ugandans at large to observe proper nutrition especially for children. He said proper nutrition promotes a healthy mind and body that enable children perform better academically. On security, Muruli-Mukasa assured Ugandans of peace and stability. He urged politicians to put aside their differences and unite for development. The project coordinator Nutrition and Early Childhood Development (NECD), Hilda Tusingwire, said bicycles and radio sets had been given to community care workers to enable them mobilise people at the grassroot.
