By Kyetume Kasanga in Masindi Wilson Masalu Musene, the registrar Supreme Court, has appealed to the Government to increase the number of judges. He said this will enable them dispose of cases quickly and avoid overcrowding of prisons. He was addressing district leaders and the public at Masindi Stadium on Thursday. Musene warned that cases would continue piling in courts because the current 30 judges were insufficient. Musene is a member of the Committee for Strengthening Integrity of the Judiciary chaired by Justice Joseph Mulenga (picured above). The team is visiting selected districts to gather views on corruption in the Judiciary. Justice G. M. Okello, who led the team in the north and mid-west, appealed to the people to freely forward their views to the committee. Okello is a judge of the Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. Okello met Masindi Prison officials and in-mates. He said in-mates were entitled to proper care while in incaceration. He advised them to obey prison authorities to make life easier. He said, “To err is human. You are not unfortunate by being here because prison is for everybody. I would only advise that you obey prison authorities to make your stay here easy.”
