Villa anticipates win against Black Rhino to be declared champions

Oct 29, 2001

By Daniel Saire AT one moment, SC Villa chased shadows when they momentarily lost grip on this year’s Nile Special Super League title. This was after Simba and Iganga halted its run with wins that almost caused a big rift among the club top officials. But luck returned to the most successful local team, when the National League Committee awarded them maximum points from the aborted game against rivals KCC. The jogoos, today fly against relegated Black Rhinos at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole with hope of a straight win to be declared this year’s champions with one more game to spare. And the club gunning for its 13th league title knows exactly what is at stake. They entered camp at Nakawa Vocational Institute on Saturday in preparation for this crucial match. “We are taking the match very seriously and enough preparations have been made to beat our opponents,” said coach Paul Hasule. If Villa win today’s match, it will be Hasule’s fourth straight title as the blue’s coach. Hasule who joined Villa Park in 1998 as coach has his contract expiring at the end of this year. He has so far won three league and two Kakungulu Cup titles. And there is no any better way of winding up his duties with another double. He however, cautioned his players against complacency. “Teams that have no purpose are hard to play and my players must work extra hard,” he said. Black Rhino may prove Hasule right. Villa has been struggling to win its matches like it was evident in their last match against another relegated side Chicago United that they beat 2-1. r Starting the 2002 season, all Super Division league clubs are required to have junior sides. FUFA will boost the junior teams with subvention from FIFA grants, reports Robert Bukenya. The FUFA October 13 assembly in Kampala resolved that all Super Division clubs raise junior teams as one way to sustain the game. This will become mandatory after being included in the 2002 NSSL rules. ends
