Germany Gives Aid To Katakwi Displaced

THE German Embassy has pledged 50,000 DM (sh39,000,000) in relief to support internally displaced people in Katakwi.

By Juliet Nankinga THE German Embassy has pledged 50,000 DM (sh39,000,000) in relief to support internally displaced people in Katakwi. The pledge follows an appeal by the Minister of State for Entandiikwa, Grace Akello, for humanitarian assistance. a statement issued by the embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany said the relief will be implemented with the assistance of ISIS-WICCE. It is in line with the amicable co-operation and support for Uganda by the Germany government. The relief will comprise of blankets, utensils, medication and medical assistance. The assistance follows recent clashes with the Karimojong which left 20 dead and many others displaced. Over 80,000 people have been displaced from their homes in Katakwi following the Karimojong invasion. Twelve people were recently killed when the Karimojong warriors attacked an internally displaced people’s camp in Ngariam sub-county. Meanwhile, Last week Akello received relief items from the children and staff of City Parents Primary School to the Katakwi displaced people. Ends
