A Kampala lawyer, Andrew Kasirye, last week apologised to Katikkiro Joseph Ssemwogerere for disregarding his directive to seek his consent before organising any kingdom’s function, reports Josephine Maseruka The permanent secretary in the Katikkiro’s office, Joseph Kisuule, confirmed that Kasirye, who is one of the trustees of the Kabaka Foundation, personally met the Katikkiro and apologised. Kisuule revealed that Kasirye said there was no way he could have disregarded the Katikkiro’s directive arguing that press reports exaggerated the content in the statement he issued. Kasirye’s lengthy press statement issued on October 22 said, “It is obvious from the matters aforesaid that the Kabaka Foundation is not in any way restricted by the public announcements from the office of the Katikkiro.” “Those affected include ministries of the Mengo government and undertakings such as BUCADEV, BICUL that fall under them,” the report added. The Kabaka Foundation is not funded by the Buganda Treasury and is therefore not financially accountable to the Omuwanika, Buganda’s finance minister. The statement also expressed concern over the future sponsorship of the Foundation functions.
