THE FUFA presidential nominations begin today with candidates picking forms at Nakulabye.

By Daniel Saire THE FUFA presidential nominations begin today with candidates picking forms at Nakulabye. Returning officer, David Agong, set Saturday as closing day for handing in the nomination forms that should have been signed by at least three legible associations. Each candidate is supposed to pay a sh200,000 non-refundable fee before picking the forms. Four people have declared interest to contest against incumbent Denis Obua. They are Hajji Twaha Kakaire, Abass Kaawaase, Michael Okiror and Joseph Kaggwa. Meanwhile, delegates from eastern Uganda have urged the Obua opponents to unite and let only one candidate run against him. The delegates argued that the opposition would give Obua an upper hand if they divided their votes. They were given up to the end of this week to make up their minds and report back. This was during a meeting held at Bellevue hotel in Jinja on Monday, and was addressed by Obua’s rivals Kakaire, Lira delegates Rev. Otto Olima. Rev Otto said eastern region had the best candidates but blamed them for disunity. Otto, who was in the company of his co-delegate Patrick Ogwel, said that majority of delegates from the north had resolved to dump Obua. “History has proved us right because we told people in 1998 that Obua was a non-performer but they refused to listen. You are free to return him, but for us we are not in for him,” he said. FUFA treasurer, Hassan Galiwango, said that delegates from the region should apologise for having let down other regions when they decampaigned Kakaire in 1998. All candidates promised to improve football and be accountable to the public. The polls are set for December 1. ends
