THERE was fanfare at the Kampala Central Division’s William Street offices yesterday when incumbent Kamwokya 2 parish councillor, Valerian Mutekanga, arrived for nomination. A. G. Musamali reports that multipartist Mutekanga is standing against Lt. Muhammed Kato, who was scheduled for nomination later yesterday. others nominated were Ssebina Mukasa Walulya, who is taking on sex-workers’ advocate, Stella Nambuya for the Kagugube woman seat. Margeret Tumwebaze, the incumbent woman councillor for Kagugube parish, Athuman Mutasa, for Kisenyi III, and Edith Matovu for the Kamwokya II woman seat. Mutekanga’s 15 vehicles consisting of about 10 mini-buses, pick-up trucks and cars drove to the street behind a boys’ brigade band. Several bodaboda motorcycles rode beside the motorcade. Kadodi-Imbalu dancers and Engalabi dancers swept through the convoy and masked youths excited the public. Business in the nearby Kiseka Market came to a standstill as people rushed to join the fanfare. Ardoned with flowers around his neck, Mutekanga was accompanied by Matovu an outgoing LC2 secretary for women. The exercise was presided over by John Gateni, the returning officer who appealed to candidates to be calm. Ends
