By Emmanuel Mulondo Violent tribal clashes have erupted in Katooke sub-county, Kyenjojo district, in which at least three people have died. The clashes which started on Thursday, have united the immigrant Bafumbira and Bakiga on one hand against the Batooro on the other. Kyenjojo district chairman William Kaija told The New Vision yesterday that the clashes were sparked off by a political quarrel between one Simon Mugisha, a mufumbira and Simon Kyalisiima’s wife (mutooro) during a funeral. Following the quarrel Kyalisiima’s wife reportedly went home and told her husband how Mugisha had insulted her over political matters. Kyalisiima, who lost to Mugisha in the recently concluded LCI elections, picked a gun and headed for the funeral where he shot the equally armed Mugisha dead. Mourners scampered for cover leaving the two dead bodies there. Kyalisiima went away with Mugisha’s gun which he showed to his wife and said, “I have killed him and here is his gun.” The Bakiga and Bafumbira who are dominant in the area are said to have mobilised, saying the Batooro had declared a war on them. They went on rampage, killed an elderly lady identified as Dorothy Kahubiire and destroyed five iron-roofed and two grass-thatched houses belonging to Batooro. Some children were also cut using machetes. Ends
