COURT has summoned the state minister for gender, Sam Bitangaro, and a Kampala advocate, Charles Nangwala, to testify in a fraud case against the former director of Oil Seeds Ltd, report Maurice Okore and Hillary Kiirya. The summons issued by the Buganda Road Court chief magistrate, Frank Nigel Othembi, stated that the two are to appear in court on December 20. Senior Principal State Attorney Simon Byabakama told court that the two will prove that they forwarded sh70m to the Oil Seeds director, Charles Twagira, to clear arbitration fees for Remmy Kasule of Kawanga & Kasule Company Advocates. Kasule was appointed as an arbitrator by High Court Judge Constance Byamugisha to settle a dispute between Uganda Development Bank (UDB) and Oil Seeds over sh2.7b awarded by court to Oil Seeds for damages and costs. Court heard that Nangwala, counsel for UDB, passed on sh70m to Bitangaro, counsel for Oil Seeds, who was in turn supposed to pass it on to Kasule as his fee for arbitration. Twagira allegedly stole the sh70m he received from Bitangaro. Ends
