BUSHENYI district chairman Yowasi Makaru, 73, has pulled out of the LC5 race a day ahead of nominations for district chairpersons, reports Allan Turyaguma. Makaru yesterday told The New Vision that he had sacrificed enough for Bushenyi and that it was time for him to retire. “I would like to thank the people of Bushenyi for the co-operation they have given me during my term of office and I request them to allow me give the rubengo to another person to carry it,” he said. “Bushenyi is not for one person. Whoever comes must go and he who digs on soft soil must take a rest at the end of the day,” Makaru added. He appealed to his supporters to keep calm and use their judgment to choose a suitable successor for him. “I am not going to dictate upon the people of Bushenyi about the candidate they should vote for because I trust them when it comes to separating bad from good. I know they will vote for the right candidate who will listen to them,” he said. Two other candidates, Longino Ndyanabo and Joram Tibasiimwa, the headmaster of Mbarara High School are aspiring for Bushenyi district chairmanship. Makaru, who has been the district chairman since 1989 said he intends to do private business in his retirement. He advised residents to work hard and fight poverty. He appealed to them to take their children to school under the UPE programme.
