Luther T for gospel Christmas explosion

By Sebidde Kiryowa Although he has been absent from the mainstream music scene for a while now, Luther T’s distinctively husky voice and captivatingly sharp good looks never ceased to speak out for him. The twenty something vocalist quit the mainstream R&B group ‘The Gents’, in the wake of the success of their single Cinderella to pursue a gospel music career. But slipping out of the limelight never meant he had quit his craft. As a Matter-of-fact, he continued doing his thing with just as much zeal on a gospel tip. But even with so much talent and energy, Luther failed to make a really palpable impact on the gospel scene. The major reason could have been that as part of the musicians of the Kasanga Miracle Team, Luther was very easy to lose. The more rational explanation however, would be that he was rather complacent with doing mass choir contemporary praise and worship that he never gave much thought to developing a solo music career, at least not until now. Luther recently released the first singles off his planned solo debut album to radio. “I have released two singles: Singa, the title track and Saviour, to radio stations, Star, Simba and Power FM about two weeks ago,” he said. Although the six-track album will officially be launched early next year, Luther will start his promotional concerts with a performance at Kasanga Miracle Centre on Christmas afternoon. Singa (Tetwalokoka) is a superbly produced Luganda song, offering dipped in rich Afropop rhythms. It is relatively catchy and danceable but draws most of its credibility from its easy sing-along refrains. It can easily draw you in and wonder together with Luther about what would have become of us if Christ had not died for us on the cross. Like Singa, Saviour was produced by little-known Ziwa Steven from New Life Church Kabalagala in renowned gospel singer Steven Ogwa-ng’s studios in Wandegeya. ends
