By Nasur Wambedde THE Mbale Police has arrested a witchdoctor, Sheikh Hamdan Madanga, over possessing a human head in his shrine. The district police commander, Oire Eyagu, said Madanga was recently picked from his home in Kiteso, Namakwekwe ward in the municipality. Oire said they got a tip from residents and searched Mudanga’s house where they found the head in his shrine. Oire said they could not establish whether the head was for a female or male person because it had decomposed so much. “Practicing witchcraft or human sacrifice under the Uganda law is criminal. The culprit will appear in court to answer these charges,” Oire said. However, Madanga, denied owning the head and accused his fellow witchdoctors for smuggling the head into his shrine to frustrate his business because, he said, he had more clients. Madanga, who claimed he was a devout Muslim said, “I have faith in my heart. I talk the truth during this holy month of Ramadhan. I have not killed anybody.” Residents in the area said they had lost respect for Madanga after realising that he was behaving contrary to his faith. Residents also accused him of committing adultery under the disguise of treating married women. At the time of his arrest, Madanga was breaking his fast. His patients fled after seeing the police.
