* Veteran coach favoured for Lugogo job By Douglas Mazune FORMER national coach David Otti was yesterday on the brink of joining KCC following intense evening talks with the club's officials. The New Vision learnt that KCC had abandoned a move for former Lugogo star Sam Ssimbwa and swooped for Otti, who coached Military Police last term. Otti confirmed late yesterday that he had been in touch with KCC but declined to reveal the level of the talks. "It is still tricky," Otti said. "There are some other factors that I can not disclose to you at the moment." The veteran coach said the talks were likely to be concluded either way before the end of the week. "May be on Friday we will agree," he said. His contract with Military elapses at the end of February 2001 but he was unwilling to talk about it. Otti, who played for the national team then coached it in the 1970s, is the most experienced coach in the Nile Special Super League. The veteran coach guided Express FC to their first League title in 18 years in 1993 and had a stint with Rwanda's APR in 1995 and 1996 - winning League and Cup doubles in both years. Having handled SC Villa in the 1980s, he returned to Villa Park in 1997, leaving early in 1998 for Gor Mahia of Kenya. When he returned, Otti moved to army side Military mid-last season and has been there since leading them to fifth place in the League. KCC, who finished second last term, won the League title in 1997 but have had three torrid seasons since, struggling as arch-rivals SC Villa won a hattrick of titles. During those years, Lugogo has employed seven coaches, four of them foreign. Tom Lwanga, Jackson Mayanja (coach-player), Flemming Jackobson (Denmark), Asumani Lubowa, Sierra Leonian Abo Koroma, Hussein Kheri of Kenya and, more recently, Tanzanian Sulaiman Gwaje have all come and gone. NSSL side Mbale Heroes will meet former Express coach Rishadi Shedu tomorrow with a view of signing him for the coming campaign. Ends.
