Nile breweries to award sports scribes on Saturday

UGANDA Sports Press Association (USPA) in conjunction with Nile Breweries will host the 2000 Sports Journalists Awards dinner on Saturday at Hotel Africana.

By Vision Reporter UGANDA Sports Press Association (USPA) in conjunction with Nile Breweries will host the 2000 Sports Journalists Awards dinner on Saturday at Hotel Africana. USPA chairman Geoffrey Kulubya in a press release issued on Tuesday in Kampala also said that USPA would launch a colourful magazine marking its 30th anniversary. "We are now set for the Sports Journalist Awards Dinner whose chief guest will be information minister Basoga Nsadhu," said Kulubya. The best sports writer, rookie, vernacular writer, photographer, radio and television presenters would be awarded trophies and cash prizes. The sports scribes now numbering 85 voted for the outstanding performers in the electronic and print media. Veteran journalist Andrew Patrick Luwandagga of UTV was chairman of the awards committee. Nile Breweries are official sponsors of the third edition awards that are aimed at encouraging and promoting quality sports journalism in Uganda. USPA patron and sports state minister Alfred Omony Ogaba, local government minister Bidandi Ssali, She Kobs patron and state minister for youth and child affairs Mary Nsangi Kakembo and state minister of housing Francis Babu plus other dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion. Kenneth Matovu of The New Vision has won the last two top prizes held at at UMA Conference Hall, Nakawa. Ends.
