KAMPALA - Lt. Col. David Lyagombe is dead. Army spokesman Maj Phinehas Katirima said yesterday Lyagombe died early yesterday at the Joint Clinic Research Centre in Kampala.

KAMPALA - Lt. Col. David Lyagombe is dead. Army spokesman Maj Phinehas Katirima said yesterday Lyagombe died early yesterday at the Joint Clinic Research Centre in Kampala. He died "of natural causes after a long illness," he said. Lyagombe, who commanded one of the several UPDF battalions deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo, was second-in-command to Col. Sula Semakula during the May - June clashes in Kisangani between Ugandan and Rwandan forces. In August, the army suspended him with Capt. Nathan Kagumaho allegedly for offences committed during the Kisangani clashes. Ends
