THE Ministry of Information has licensed 77 FM radio and 13 television stations.

By Charles Ariko THE Ministry of Information has licensed 77 FM radio and 13 television stations. Basoga Nsadhu, the minister of information, said in Kampala on Friday that the Government's liberalisation policy had led to a 14% growth in the sector, with the information ministry liberalising airwaves. Basoga was speaking at the graduation of over 150 students from the International Institute of Business and Media Studies at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala. The graduands were awarded certificates and diplomas in various disciplines, including journalism, radio and TV production. Basoga said the demand for trained people in the media industry was likely to increase with the licensing of more radio and TV stations. He said at the time the Movement government came into power, investment in the development of human resource was miserable. He said the Government encouraged human resource training to meet the demands of a growing economy. "When we invited investors, some people complained that the investors were bringing in unskilled and sub-standard people to work here. Now with people like you, we have trained manpower. You should not only end at what you have achieved today. You should aim higher," Basoga said. The school's principal, Luggya, urged the graduands to exhibit high professional standards and discipline. Ends
