By Samson Opus POWERHOUSE Lukanga reasserted its superiority in the ring by retaining the national inter-mediates championship Sunday. The champions, who were upset by KBC's victory after record six-year dominace in novices last month, bagged 29 points to open an unassailable lead in a thrilling final at Lugogo indoor stadium. Challengers Kampala Boxing Club finished second with 15 points, two better than Najja. Scorpions and BHS (Basajabalaba Hides and Skins) were joint fourth with eight points while Kakira and Makindye also came joint sixth with seven points each. The week-long event that attracted 180 boxers from 18 clubs displayed a rare nail-biting finale in heavier weight categories amidst drumming and trumpeting from a packed stadium. The main attraction was was in super heavyweight contest where Elly Serwanga (BHS) overcame Hassan Magala (Scorpions) with staggering punches, that forced the corner-man to throw in the towel. All-time winners' chairman, Samuel Lukanga, who was irritated last time, was in festive mood as he dished out presents to 33 of his boxers in the event. "At least it was fair... At least," Lukanga who had threatened to pull of boxing after the novices loss said guardedly. Ends
