NFLC vice chairman Livingstone Lajan told The New Vision yesterday that the national league would kick off after the Bika soccer cup. "The 2001 Nile Special premier soccer league kicks off in mid February. The Bika cup ending January 31 and the Hedex super cup has forced NFLC to tentatively set that date as the kick-off," said Lajan. The new look 15-club league is sponsored by Nile Breweries and associates British American Tobacco Uganda under its Sportsman brand, Coca-Cola, MTN Uganda and Shell. SC Villa is the defending champion and will represent Uganda in the CAF champions league and CECAFA club cup in Kenya in January. Lajan also said the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) club championship in Nairobi and Mombasa is the other reason for the February kick-off. Teams: Villa, Express, KCC, SCOUL, Military, Mbarara, Simba, Mbale Heroes, Iganga, Rock Star, Police, Black Rhino, Horizon, Chicago and Masaka LC-V. Health FC chairman Sylver Mukasa has warned KCC and Military for taking his players without official releases. Mukasa said yesterday that the two teams had taken his players without releases and gave them four days to go for negotiations or the players are declared deserters. Mustafa Walugembe moved to Military while midfielder Laurance Senoga is in KCC. "I am giving them only four days to negotiate or declare the players deserters," he said. Ends
