Cards and gifts galore

If nicely wrapped presents and pretty cards were not part of the game, Christmas would lose most of its colour. Everybody loves gifts irrespective of one's age and they are one of those things you never outgrow.

If nicely wrapped presents and pretty cards were not part of the game, Christmas would lose most of its colour. Everybody loves gifts irrespective of one's age and they are one of those things you never outgrow. Tell me of anyone who loathes receiving presents or frowns disgustedly at the sight of one, and I will definitely call you a liar. The type, size of the present usually varies with the relationship between the giver and receiver, but it always creates a strong special impact. There so many occasions that induce people to give presents; birthdays, weddings, graduations, valentine's day, Idi to mention but a few. However the Christmas and New Year holiday is full of merriment and gets it better when one has one or two gifts to unwrap. And these presents are the reason Boxing Day (26th December) was born. It originated from a Western Europe custom where tradesmen were given gifts and money on the first weekday after Christmas. Today, it is considered a good day for unwinding from all the festive activities and it is ideal for unwrapping boxes that grace the base of the Xmas tree throughout the pre-Xmas days. Although it is always pleasant when you receive, it is necessary that one gives more than they receive. After all, blessed is the hand that giveth than it's taking counterpart. Would you want to miss the blessing of being on the giving side? Even the scriptures put emphasis on tithing and giving. So, go out before it is too late and share the season's mood, cheer, gladness, love, and joy with someone special through a present. We usually miss giving because we only think large and extravagantly of what is worth giving. But, hasn't it been said that, beautiful things come in small packs. Think chocolates, flowers, perfumes, wines, beautiful mugs, good books, designer pens which are some of the small gifts that are easy to buy but can induce appreciation from the receiver. Julie says, gifts on these days show that one is really a true friend but they are unfortunately not as popular on other holidays. As a matter of fact a Christmas gift is more less an acknowledgement that you have been well thought of throughout that year and in a way wishing you a better life in the next. If you're creative enough, you will afford to give pleasant gifts that bring smiles to the receivers and leave happy memories to linger on. However for those who find it hard buying for others' tastes, take along an all knowing friend, one who knows the people you have in mind, to help you make your pick. Very cheap gifts are also not thrilling because they lack value. Try to give genuinely from you heart something you too would have cherished when given to you. Small gifts have resulted into life long commitments for most couples and they are known to be great healers of rocky relationships! The stalls at Banana boat in Kisementi, Aristoc booklex, shopping malls, arcades and supermarkets around town are crowded with potential gifts you can't miss. Website, Link to Uganda has been developed by a couple of young local entrepreneurs to enable Ugandans abroad purchase their relatives back home gifts online so that they keep in touch across miles, how sweet! And when you have sorted out the thorny problem of the ideal pressie, you need to think about a card to go with it. Incidentally, a card on its own can go a long way in getting the Season's message across. It's about that time when giving should come easily for almost everybody, so send a card, at least. See, in this era where poverty proclamations are the order of the day, it may be perfectly understandable when a friend does not receive much from you but what kind of a scrooge would you be not to send even a greeting card? The entrances of most shopping malls, small-scale shops or bookshops downtown, are donned with stacks of cards for sale. And then of course there is the e-card so you can't really go wrong unless you want to! Ends
