KAMPALA Mayoral candidate, Erias Lukwago, has pledged free legal services when voted in as mayor.

Addressing a rally in Busega Market and Kibumbiro village in Rubaga division, Lukwago vowed to defend for free, people whose rights were violated.

“Our work as lawyers is to defend people’s rights, irrespective of their status. Whether one is rich or poor, when his or her rights are breached, we come in to help them get justice,” he said.

Lukwago boasted of being one of the best lawyers in Parliament.
“If you ask President Museveni to name who gives him a headache when it comes to legal matters he mentions Lukwago,” he said.

Lukwago, however, said that he would not defend people accused of rape and theft.

“I am a parent I cannot stand rapists. All those people who are involved in such acts need to be prosecuted there and then,” he said.

Residents asked Lukwago to address health issues in the area when elected Kampala Mayor, saying that everything was not right.

“There is no medicine in KCC hospitals and this has led to loss of lives among many of our people.

“Even the poor sanitation in the area has led to many epidemics,” Sophie Nakato a resident of Kibumbiro said. Lukwago promised to ensure that all KCC health centres were equipped with drugs and maternity facilities in a clean environment.
