THE Mufti for the Kibuli break-away faction, Sheik Zubair Kayongo, was on Friday sworn in for a second term of office at Kibuli mosque.Kayongo, who was sworn in with 15 others will head the Kibuli Muslim sect for the next two years.

Addressing Muslims after the ceremony, Kayongo promised to establish a committee to monitor Muslim property.

“I promise to keenly monitor all Muslim land and ensure that we recover whatever was sold fraudulently,” Kayongo said amidst applause from the faithful.

Kayongo was appointed for the first term on January, 28, 2009. His appointment followed accusations that Mufti Sheik Shaban Mubajje, together with former Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) secretary general Dr. Edris Kasenene and council chairman Hassan Basajjabalaba, had fraudulently sold land on plot 30 William Street and other land in Luzira.

At the function attended by the business community, dignitaries and MPs, Kayongo hailed President Yoweri Museveni for his pledge to help Muslims recover their land.

President Museveni, while campaigning in Mpigi recently, said he would pay city businessman Drake Lubega for the Muslim land he acquired on William Street.

“I understand that the William Street mosque is on land bought by Drake Lubega. I will use my authority to pay back the money so that he leaves it for the Muslims,” he said.

Kayongo said Mubajje and his group sold lots of Muslim property in the country.

He announced that city businessman Hajji Hassan Mutasa Kafeero would withdrawal from the Nakasero Mosque land.

Last month, Muslim youth Tabliqs protested the sell of Nakasero mosque to Mutaasa Kafeero.

Prince Kasim Nakibinge hailed Kayongo and his team for uniting the Muslims during his first term in office and encouraged him to lure back all Muslims across the country.
