FOREIGN affairs state minister Isaac Musumba was on Sunday involved in a scuffle when he was blocked from addressing a rally.

Supporters of his rival, Martin Muzaale put up barricades in the road to block him as they chanted “agende” (he should go).

The supporters were protesting Musumba’s candidature after the Constitutional Court ruling last week against candidates who changed party allegiance.

This was at Kasambira trading centre, on the Kamuli- Jinja highway, where the minister was to hold a rally.

Musumba is contesting after he lost to Muzaale in the NRM primaries.

The Kamuli district Police commander, Musa Nabende, said Musumba’s supporters first razed Muzaale’s campaign grass thatched “shrine” forcing the rivals to retaliate. The Police was deployed to restrain the rowdy supporters from attacking the minister.

As Musumba’s convoy forced its way through the crowd, one of his cars hit two people. The two are undergoing treatment in Kamuli main hospital.

Musumba, however, denied that his supporters provoked Muzaale’s.
