VICTORS have been boosted by the return of lead striker Yuda Mugalu for their Confederations Cup return leg against Mbabane Highlanders.

Mugalu was released from Cranes duty at the on-going Africa Nations Championship in order to bolster his club. He is expected in Kampala this afternoon, almost a day after the Swaziland club jetting in for the encounter.

With first team players Hassan Mubiru, Fred Muhumuza and Ayub Balyejusa all injured and winger Hood Mayanja suspended, coach George Nsimbe had began worrying about his team’s strength.

But Nsimbe was a more confident man after news that national coach Bobby Williamson had released Mugalu for the Nakivubo match. “That’s very good news. I can now comfortably say that we are set,” said Nsimbe.

Victors go into the return leg cushioned by an away 1-1 result that will have them advancing with any win. Victors, who took a 45 minute lead through Mike Katende in the first round, can even afford a goal-less draw.

Williamson realized after Tuesday’s CHAN loss to Sudan that Mugalu would serve a better purpose in Kampala. Uganda is out of the Khartoum tournament after group losses to Algeria 2-0 and Sudan 1-0.

Head of Uganda’s delegation in Sudan Livingstone Kyambadde said they had wanted Mugalu to leave immediately after Tuesday’s loss to Sudan. “But we couldn’t get an immediate connection and therefore had to wait for Thursday.”

Should Victors advance, they will at the first round stage meet the winner between DR. Congo’s Motema Pembe and Zanzibar’s KMKM.
