DEMOCRATIC Party (DP) presidential candidate Norbert Mao has told youth in Entebbe Municipality that he will set aside a special budget to cater for their needs once elected.

Addressing a rally in Entebbe Kitooro, Mao said: “Our government will set aside a budget that will provide funds to the youth to set up projects that will bring them out of poverty.”

He was reacting to a group of youth who asked him to explain what his plan was for the youth.

Mao, who was accompanied by his wife Naome, said there were many projects that can boost the youth’s income but the current government had neglected them.

He added that the current education system in Uganda creates job seekers and not job creators and promised to revive the old system once in office.

“We should not teach our children things that will not help them in future.

Subjects like history should ‘be scrapped off the syllabus and concentrate on vocational studies that will help our children get employed immediately after university,” Mao said.

He told his supporters that he would cut down all taxes levied on domestic products adding that the high rates had also led to poverty.

“Most of the products used in our homes have been hiked by the businessmen in the country because of the high taxes levied on them by the Uganda Revenue Authority leaving our poor people helpless,” Mao said.

He also promised to improve the health facilities and set up projects to help the elderly whom, he said, had been neglected by the Government.

Mao asked the people of Entebbe to shun all NRM candidates and vote for the DP members.
