Sebei farmers get hitech harvesters

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has donated two combine harvesters valued at sh1.2b to Sebei Cooperative Union.

The vehicles which were delivered by Juma Seiko, the chairperson of the union, were received by the excited Kapchorwa leaders accompanied by the privatisation state minister Rukia Chekamondo.

Speaking during the handover of the machinery, Seiko thanked the Nation Resistance Movement for fulfilling its promise that was made by the President in 1996.

The machinery will be used for harvesting sorghum, barley, wheat and rice in Kapchorwa, Bukwo and other Mt. Elgon areas.

Reuben Olita, adds that the two deputy secretaries generals of the East African Community yesterday started a five-day visit to enhance their understanding of operations of the Lake Victoria Basin Commission.

Dr. Julius Rotich, the deputy secretary general for finance and administration, and Jean Claude Nsengiyumva, for productive and social sectors, attended a detailed briefing session at the commission secretariat in Kisumu, Kenya.

The team was also briefed about finance and administration matters as well as the initiative to construct the commission headquarters, including the six ongoing projects.
