SAM Timbe is arguably one of the best Ugandan soccer coaches in the CECAFA region. He guided disbanded Rwandan side Atraco to a hat-trick of CECAFA club titles.

He left a legacy at Uganda’s SC Villa and Police FC and the national junior team.

Attraco had the Ugandan’s magic and stunne fancied hosts El Merreikh of Sudan to lift the CECAFA Club Championship title in 2009.

This was Timbe’s third regional club title having won it before with Villa in 2005 and Police a year later.

Knowing Timbe’s ability to revive club fortunes, Tanzania’s YANGA FC dashed for him, may be a little too late, as he arrived just to witness the team’s 6-4 exit from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of little known Ethiopia outfit Dedebit FC.

Timbe will have the excuse of having not been in charge of the first leg that saw Yanga come from 4-2 down in the first half to level the match at 4-4. But he was in control of the return away leg in which his side was beaten 2-0 in Addis Ababa.

“The team played well but the defenders failed to adhere to pre-match instructions,” Timbe told Tanzanian journalists.

The tactician however remains optimistic that he will revive the troubled club’s fortunes. This he intends to start with the Tanzania Mainland premier league fixture against Kagera Sugar at the Katiaba Stadium in Kagera tomorrow.
