GEN. Salim Saleh, the presidential adviser on defence, has blasted Stanbic Bank after 3,000 ex-servicemen failed to get their payments.

GEN. Salim Saleh, the presidential adviser on defence, has blasted Stanbic Bank after 3,000 ex-servicemen failed to get their payments.

“This time, we may have to go legal. All the people holding accounts in other banks have received their money. Either the ministry of defence has told us lies or the money is been held somewhere,” Saleh said.

So far 10,786 ex-servicemen have been paid, 5,320 of whom are from West Nile. The privates are paid sh1.2m, while the amount increases by sh100,000 for each rank above the other.

Saleh said both the defence and public service ministries had given him records of paid officers but only those with accounts in Stanbic Bank are still not paid.

Saleh voiced his concern during a talk-show on Radio Pacis on Tuesday night. Regarding the payment of widows and relatives of fallen comrades, Saleh said the verification was in final stages and money would be paid soon.
