RESIDENTS of Kayonza sub-county in Kanungu district have expressed joy over a water scheme to be constructed in the area.

The residents had been forced to walk five kilometres in search of water.
The sh1.6b Banyara gravity flow scheme is funded by D. Swarovski KG, an Austrian-based company, through Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT).

The project is aimed at supplying safe water to local communities around the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
The scheme, which will cover 42km, will have water reservoir tanks at various points to enable sustainable safe water management around the park throughout the year.

The construction works, which will be done by Robtex Kasese Enterprises, will begin at the end of March and would be completed in nine months.

The BMCT board chairman, Frank Karaka, said although this was the first time the project had been set up in the area, they had been carrying out similar smaller projects in the area during the last 16 years.
