URA mustered an impressive away performance yesterday to take the Ecobank Uganda Super League lead. The tax collectors’ cruise to the summit followed a win over army side Simba in an encounter where they had to battle from behind.

The Lugazi outfit now has 35 points just like fellow title contenders KCC. URA however leads the 14 team race on a better goal difference.

But it was the hosts who first took charge with a Yusuf Bagonza goal 10 minutes in the game. The visitors fought back with Robert Ssentongo scoring his first goal for URA since his transfer from the Tanzanian league.

URA again made good use of the wings with Moses Feni tapping in the winner off a Sam Mubiru cross. It was URA’s eighth consecutive win. But Isabirye still felt his boys could have done better.

“The field was too muddy and uneven resulting in a match dominated by aerial play which are not good at.”

Bunamwaya like Simba couldn’t make the best of their home ground. Police held on to a 14 minute Benson Ociti lead to grab maximum points from the 2009/10 champions.

A 33rd minute chance for Bunamwaya to level matters also did not yield fruits as Owen Kasule fired a penalty into Salim Sowed’s hands. At Wankulukuku Moses Ndaula secured victory for Express against tailing Gulu.

In Luzira it took two second half substitutes for Proline to salvage a point. Patrick Igama had given Maroons the lead shortly after restart.
